Rules are part of readiness
NCBE publishes NextGen test-day policies covering permitted items, secure testing, technology, and conduct. Among other points, its page distinguishes navigation within a section from returning to an earlier completed section. Applicants should review the rules applicable to their jurisdiction and administration rather than carrying forward assumptions from another exam.
Make a rules-only checklist
Our suggestion is to set aside a short session that contains no substantive study. Identify what must be completed beforehand, what to bring, what to leave outside, and how to report a problem. Keep the checklist tied to the official source and revisit it close to the actual administration. A practice routine does not substitute for compliance with those instructions.
Keep older and future procedures separate
For California applicants, this is a future-format planning topic because NextGen begins in July 2028. It should not be used to override February 2027 instructions. If two sources appear inconsistent, check the administration and publication dates before drawing a conclusion. Avoid buying equipment solely from an older packing list. The practical goal is to recognize and resolve uncertainty early, leaving the final week for review and rest rather than discovering basic procedural requirements for the first time.
