July 2026 California Bar Exam Results: 48.3% Pass the General Exam

By Bar Exam Doctor · Source event / applicable period: October 30, 2026

The announcement

The State Bar reported that 3,838 applicants passed the July 2026 General Bar Exam, a 48.3% passing rate. Its October 30 release also reported a 49.4% passing rate for the separate Attorneys’ Exam. The General Bar Exam figure was below July 2025’s 54.8%.

Read the number in context

An overall rate describes a group, not an individual applicant’s prospects. It combines people with different preparation histories and educational backgrounds. The announcement does not establish that any particular course, study technique, or change in exam difficulty caused the result. Avoid turning a headline into a forecast about your next attempt.

A useful response to results week

If you passed, check the remaining admission steps before describing yourself as licensed. If you did not, start with your own result letter and written work. List the specific decisions your score report can help you make: how much time to allocate to written practice, which subjects need review, and which recurring writing problems deserve attention. Choose one measurable change before buying additional materials. Keep group statistics separate from that personal diagnosis. Our preparation suggestion is to review actual work rather than build a new schedule around the overall passing percentage alone.
