California Changed Its Results-Release Timing Policy in July 2026

By Bar Exam Doctor · Source event / applicable period: July 16, 2026

The policy change

At its July 16 meeting, the State Bar Board reaffirmed existing grading practices while revising results communications. The announcement described individual results being released no later than 4 p.m. on the scheduled Friday and a public pass list on the next business day, replacing the older timing policy.

Timing is not grading

A release-hour change should not be described as a new passing standard or a change to how written answers are evaluated. The announcement separates the communication policy from the grading procedures. Applicants should also distinguish a general policy from the exact date posted for their own exam.

An information-checking routine

Our suggestion is to bookmark the official results page and check it near release week. Put the administration, date, time, and source together in your notes. If an older preparation article gives a different hour, compare the dates and use current official instructions. Make plans for receiving the result without depending on rumors about when a website might refresh. For employers and families, the public pass-list schedule may differ from the private portal schedule. A clear distinction between those steps can prevent unnecessary confusion during an already stressful week.
