Self-review is most useful as a diagnosis of coverage and reasoning. It is harder to assign yourself a reliable official-style score. Use a checklist to identify what the answer demonstrates and what needs external feedback or further checking.
Start with the assignment
Read the call again and mark where each requested part is answered. Check the relevant parties, claims, defenses, and limitations. An answer can be long and still fail this first test.
Inspect rules and factual reasoning
Check important rule statements against current materials. Underline the sentences explaining why a specific fact affects a requirement. Look for contrary facts, unsupported assumptions, and conclusions that arrive before the explanation. Separate missing knowledge from missing application.
Record timing and a repair
Note unfinished sections and where the time went. Choose a repair that matches the cause. Use a grader or tutor for feedback when you cannot tell whether your reasoning is sufficient; a self-assigned number alone will not resolve that uncertainty.
Worked example
Separate three findings from one overall impression
An answer reaches every requested part, misstates one important qualification, and uses strong factual explanation on another issue. A general self-rating would hide those differences.
Starting approach
Mark the essay ‘good’ because it is complete, or ‘bad’ because one rule is wrong.
A stronger approach
Coverage pass: all requested parts reached. Law pass: verify and correct the qualification. Analysis pass: identify the successful fact-to-rule passage and the issue affected by the error. Choose a repair for the misstatement while retaining the useful analytical method.
Why the change matters
The review produces an actionable diagnosis rather than an unsupported numerical forecast. Check uncertainties against appropriate materials and use external feedback when you cannot assess the sufficiency of the reasoning. Record timing separately so completeness achieved with extra time does not silently count as timed performance.
Common mistake: Do not let confidence in one part of the answer substitute for checking the rest.

Use the published graded-answer examples to see the relationship between a response and its comments. If a recurring problem remains unclear, personal tutoring can help you discuss a specific passage and choose the next practice task.
Try this in your next session
Review one answer in three passes: task coverage, law and application, timing. Write one finding from each pass and choose the most consequential repair for the next session.
